Your AI Isn't Lying to You. It's Missing Context

“AI lies.” I hear it all the time. AI can hallucinate, but most of the time when it seems to be lying, it is missing context. High-quality inputs get you high-quality outputs, and connectors give it those inputs without hours of copying and pasting.

Recorded live on October 23, 2026. Unscripted, so the transcript below is lightly cleaned up, not rewritten. Watch on YouTube.

What I covered

The short version.

  • Context changes the answer. “Is now a good time to sell?” gets a generic answer. Add the city, the reason, comps, days on market and that it backs up to the train tracks, and you get a real one.
  • One pasted email is not enough. It does not know the last year of your relationship with that client.
  • Connectors are the fix. ChatGPT, Claude and Grok can connect to your email, calendar, Plaud, Zoom, QuickBooks and many CRMs.
  • A price reduction conversation. Connected, your AI can read every email and text with the seller, the recorded listing presentation, showing feedback and every offer.
  • MLS hack. Export a year of solds from your MLS as a spreadsheet and upload it.

[snorts] >> Good morning and welcome to a new edition of AI Musings with Merrell. I'm coming at you this morning talking about what I am doing and using and what I'm thinking about with regards to AI. I have a morning show. I try to go live most days. I've been very inconsistently with lots of travel but was really excited yesterday. We went live with our AI agent business planning tool. So if you are starting to work on your 2027 business plan, make sure you go check out the video that we did yesterday on a really cool interactive business planning agent that basically a skill that you can install into your Claude or chat GPT account that will allow you to make your business plan more interactive like it'll interact with your production tracker.

It'll interact with your P&L. It'll interact with whatever tools you already have and if you don't have anything, it'll still give you an interactive business plan that will integrate with your calendar and help hold you accountable. So, please go check that out if you haven't done so already. Today, what is on my mind is this idea, do you feel like your AI lies to you? We This is a This is a phrase that I hear quite often. Well, you know, AI lies. And it is true that AI can absolutely lie and we you know, hallucinate, right? It'll It'll say something that's just absolutely not true. You know, I can think especially in the earlier days of AI, the getting into several arguments about it saying that well, I can definitely do this and I kept trying to get it to do it and it wouldn't do it.

Like eventually figured out it couldn't do it at all, right? And so, there's there's definitely times when AI lies to us, but I actually think that most of the time when you think your AI is lying to you, it's not really lying to you. It's lacking context. And this is just something that I have kind of been on my high horse about lately, that if you want really thorough outputs, you want really good, high-quality outputs from AI, you need to give it really good, high-quality inputs. So, if you go to an AI It doesn't matter. ChatGPT, Claude, any of them, right? And just Perplexity or Gemini and say something like, is now a good time to sell a house?

You're going to get an answer and you know, hopefully the ans- that with that big of a question, hopefully the answer would be well, it depends on what your circumstances are. But just play along with me here for a moment. Just hypothetically, you go to an AI and you ask it, hey, is now a good time to sell a house? And it might say, well, yeah, sure. Today is a great, you know, it might be a good time to sell a house because of X, Y, and Z. But then you give it additional context, right? You say, well, is now a good time to sell a house in Phoenix, Arizona? As an example, right? And you give it you tell it a location. And then and then maybe you give it some additional context about the reason that you're thinking about selling a house.

And then maybe you give it some additional context about the comparable sales in the area. Maybe you give it some additional context about the market trends in the area, average days on market, typical sales to list price ratios, year-over-year appreciation, right? Maybe you give it all that additional context and then ask if it's a good time to sell a house. Then maybe you mention that it's right next to the train tracks, right? Like the more context you give it, the more thorough of an answer it can provide for you. But here's the rub. We don't have time to go gather all of that information, right? Like just Okay, here's another scenario. Let's say that there's an email that you receive from a from a business associate or a client or whatever.

Maybe it's a complex email and you would like your AI assistant to help you respond to that email. I think this is something that probably most of us have done. So you maybe you take that email and you copy and paste it into ChatGPT and say, "Hey, I got this email over here from Bob. Will you help me draft a reply?" Right? And it will it will take that email and it will draft a reply to that email. The problem is that it's missing context about your relationship with Bob. If you wanted it to give you a really thorough reply, you would need to give it the last year worth of emails that you've had with Bob, right? And that's just too time-consuming to go and get all those emails and copy and paste them all and take them back to your AI.

So the secret, not really a secret, sorry, but the but the but the tool that you need to solve this problem is connectors. Okay? So inside of ChatGPT, Claude, all Grok bot, I'm not sure about Gemini, they're kind of weird. But the vast majority of these AIs now have the ability for you to connect your email and your calendar and your Plaud and your Zoom and your QuickBooks and like whatever tools that you use, most of them, even many of you, maybe even your CRM, has the ability to connect to AI. So, hypothetically, let's say you're you're preparing to have a conversation with a listing. You've got a listing, you need to follow up with the seller, you're going to want to ask them to reduce the price.

Okay? You can go to ChatGPT and say, "Hey, I need to have a conversation with the homeowner of 123 Banana Street. Can you help me plan for the price reduction conversation?" And it'll put together a little script for you. The problem is it doesn't know anything about the personality profile of that seller. It doesn't know anything about how long it's been on the market. It doesn't know anything about how many offers have come in. Okay? But what if what if before we asked, "Hey, help me prep for my price reduction conversation with this seller." Before we asked that, what if ChatGPT or Claude or was already connected to your email? And it could go in and read every email piece correspondence you've ever had between yourself and that homeowner.

Or what if it was connected to your CRM and it could go into your CRM and read every piece of text message or email correspondence that you've had with that homeowner? What if it was connected to your Claude and you had recorded the listing presentation? So, it now knows everything that the homeowner said on the listing appointment and it's also connected to your email. So, it's seeing everything that all the correspondence that you and the seller have had back and forth. But guess what else it can see in your email? It can also see all the showing time notifications, all of the offers that have come in, all of the questions that listing agents or buyers agents have emailed you about the property, right?

It can just go into your email and gather all of that information. And may maybe there's additional information in your calendar. Maybe there's additional information in your MLS. Here's Here's a hack that I wish I try to show this to a lot of agents. I know there's a lot who already know how to do this, but many who don't. You can export most MLSs, you can export the data out of the MLS and import it into your AI as a spreadsheet. So, you can say, "Hey, give me all the homes that have sold in that area for the past year. Let me upload that to Claude and say, "Hey, help me prep for this price reduction conversation with the seller." The point is that when you give it much more context, it is able to provide you with a much better result in terms of, "Hey, this is what you might want to consider when talking to the seller about the price reduction conversation." Cuz it has all the context.

It knows what their pushback was on the listing presentation regarding the price. It knows that they didn't want to take that low offer because of X, Y, and Z. It knows that we've received feedback from all these people saying that they think the home is overpriced. It's going to be able to package all of that into a comprehensive thing that will help you talk to the seller and show them the data and the facts about what's really happening on the listing without you spending hours and hours trying to aggregate all of that information. So, if you feel like your AI is lying to you, my moral of the story today, what I want to challenge you on is Oh, shoot.

Is my audio working? I think my audio is working. That would really suck if my audio hasn't been working this whole time. What I want to challenge you on is give your AI more context, and as it has more context, it will do a better job serving you. Hope you get
