Field note · September 8, 2026 · From Merrill

ChatGPT or Claude? Stay where you’re comfortable.

For months everything on this site has been “Claude for Agents.” This week I paid for ChatGPT, put the desktop app on my Mac, and ran the same agent workflows on both. Both run them. So the name changed to Take it and Run – AI, the builds are brand agnostic, and the one thing keeping me personally in Claude is Claude Design. Here is the whole comparison, with install links.

  • 10-minute live replay
  • Side-by-side charts
  • Desktop app links for both
  • The new name: Take it and Run – AI

Recorded live on September 8, 2026. Chapters are in the description on the YouTube watch page.

The short version

Three things changed this week.

If you only read one section, read this one. Everything below it is the detail.

1 · The test

Both run the agents.

Listing prep, comps, the morning briefing, the weekly seller report. I ran them in ChatGPT’s desktop app and they ran. Not “sort of.” They ran. Agentic AI is now a capability of both platforms, not a feature of one.

2 · The exception

Claude Design is keeping me in Claude.

Your logo, your headshot, your exact fonts, your compliance line, on a printable flyer and a social carousel, without being reminded. Nothing on the ChatGPT side does that yet. For a real estate agent whose marketing has to look like them, that is the whole ballgame.

3 · The name

“Claude for Agents” is now Take it and Run – AI.

Every build from here forward is written to run in ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or whatever ships next. The addresses on this site are not changing. Only the name at the top has.

Need help choosing?

Where each one is stronger, honestly.

This is what I found running the same work in both, as of September 2026. It will drift. Both companies ship something new most weeks. When a row stops being true, we update it.

Where to use both

You do not have to pick. Here is how one week splits.

If you are willing to pay for two seats, this is how the work actually divides on our team. If you are paying for one, pick the column that matches the row you do most.

The taskStart it inFinish it inWhy
Weekly seller report Either. The numbers and the narrative run the same in both. Claude Design for the version that lands in the seller’s inbox. What the seller sees is what they think of you. The finish work has to be on brand.
Listing presentation ChatGPT for a hero image of the neighborhood or the lifestyle. Claude Design to lay out the presentation around your comps and your brand. Best painter on one side, best typesetter on the other.
Social posts and reels captions Whichever app you talk to most. The voice work is equal. Claude Design for carousels and quote cards; ChatGPT for the photo-style image. Same reason as above. Picture there, layout here.
Morning briefing and calendar prep The one connected to your email and calendar. ChatGPT has more connectors today. Same app. Nothing to hand off. The briefing is only as good as what it can read. Connect first, then choose.
Comps and pricing conversations Either. Paste the MLS export, ask the questions, get the range. Claude Design if a printed pricing page is going in front of the seller. Analysis is a tie. Presentation is not.
Website pages and long-form content Either for the writing. Claude Design plus the WordPress.com connector to draw and ship the page. We show the whole thing live Friday. This entire site was built that way, including this page.
My current advice, September 2026
Stay where you are comfortable. Claude Design is what is keeping me in Claude.
Merrill Jencks

Comfort is not a small thing. The agents who get good at this are the ones who open the app every day, and you will open the one that feels like yours. Do not switch because a video told you to. Do get off the browser tab and onto the desktop app, whichever one it is. That is where the agents live.

Install the desktop app

Ten minutes, either side. Then come back to a build.

Both companies ship the agent features in the desktop app first and the browser second. If you have only ever used chatgpt.com or claude.ai in a tab, this is the upgrade that matters, and it costs nothing beyond the plan you already pay for.

If you are a ChatGPT person

ChatGPT desktop, with ChatGPT Work and Codex

1
Download it.

chatgpt.com/download. Mac today. On Windows, take ChatGPT Classic from the same page and watch that page for the full app.

2
Sign in on a paid plan.

ChatGPT Work, the part that runs agents for you, is on Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. The free tier gives you the chat, not the agents.

3
Add the Chrome extension.

Same download page. It lets ChatGPT see and act on the page you have open, which is how the market-update and posting builds save you the copy-and-paste.

4
Connect your email and calendar.

In settings, turn on the connectors for the tools you live in. This is what turns a chatbot into a morning briefing.

If you are a Claude person

Claude desktop, with Claude Design and Cowork

1
Download it.

claude.com/download. Mac and Windows.

2
Sign in on a paid plan.

Projects, Connectors, Cowork and Claude Design need a paid seat. Not sure which rung you are on? Start Here sorts it in five minutes.

3
Open Claude Design.

claude.com/product/design. Then teach it your brand once so every flyer, carousel and seller report comes out looking like you.

4
Add Claude in Chrome.

claude.com/claude-in-chrome. Rung six on the ladder; our seven-minute walkthrough shows what it does.

Neither of these is an affiliate link; the WordPress.com link on this page is one, and it costs you nothing extra. Plan names and what each tier includes were checked on September 8, 2026 and will change; the download pages are the source of truth.

The new name

“Claude for Agents” is now Take it and Run – AI.

Take it and Run is what Kristi has told agents for years: here are the instructions, now go. The AI library is the same idea, with the build handed to you. Every link on this site stays where it was.

What is not changing
  • Every build page keeps its address. Nothing you bookmarked breaks.
  • The build library keeps growing most weeks.
  • Take It and Run still carries every new build on Thursdays.
  • The Claude Ladder stays exactly as it is. It is the best map of Claude we know how to draw.
Stay in the loop

The name changes. The Thursday email does not.

Take It and Run is the weekly newsletter that carries every new build, the invite to the next live session, and the honest version of what worked in ChatGPT, what worked in Claude, and what did not work in either.

Questions

The ones we got in the chat.

Short answers. The long ones are in the video.

Do I have to switch to Claude to use your builds?

No. Everything we publish from here on is written to run in either app, and we say so on each new page. The builds already on the site were written for Claude. We are running each one in ChatGPT and will mark them as they pass, one at a time, rather than stamping the whole library “works everywhere” before it has been tested.

Is there a Claude Design equivalent in ChatGPT?

Not as of this writing. ChatGPT makes a better single image. Claude Design holds your whole brand system and lays out finished, printable, on-brand pieces you can update with one sentence next week. That gap is the reason Merrill is staying, and it is the row we will update first if it closes.

Why does the desktop app matter so much?

Because that is where both companies put the agent features first: reading your files, working in your other apps, running a multi-step task while you do something else. The browser tab is the radio in a brand-new car. Fine, but you are leaving most of the car unused.

What about Grok, Gemini, or whatever comes next?

Same rule. Our builds are written in plain English, so the workflow moves to whichever platform you are comfortable in. We publish charts like the ones above only for tools we have actually done a week of real estate work in, so the Grok column arrives when it has earned it.

Are the web addresses on this site changing?

No. An address is a street name, not a brand. Every build keeps the link you have. Only the name at the top of the library changed: it is now Take it and Run – AI.

Or have it set up with you

Want the desktop app installed, connected, and running your first agent before we hang up?

A working session with Kristi or Merrill ends with a system running in the app you already use, not a list of notes.
