It’s not about being perfect. It’s about how fast you get back. Recovery speed is the skill — and it’s one you can practice starting today.
Don’t you think there are some people who seem perfect? Like they pick a goal and just stick to it, then BOOM! They become mega successful.
We’re all mature enough now to know that that isn’t true, right? No one is actually perfect.
So what’s the difference between those successful people and those who don’t see their goals through?
In other words: when a successful person wants to lose weight, what keeps them from going off the rails when they eat a Crumble cookie at a team meeting? Or when they don’t meet their daily contacts goal?
Answer: they shake it off quicker. They get back on the wagon. They don’t wallow in shame and go on a sugar binge or “wait until Monday” to start making calls.
Think about it this way… if you have a flat tire, you don’t go slash your remaining three!
Recovery speed is the skill. Not perfection. Done is better than perfect, and a fast recovery beats a flawless plan every single time.
Ask yourself right now
What did you fall off of this week? Prospecting? Your CRM? Your morning routine?
Don’t spiral. Don’t start over on Monday. Don’t wait until next quarter. Recommit at the next meal. Make the next call. Log in today.
My husband, Merrill, lost over 200 pounds — and this mindset is one of the things that made it possible. We talked about it on the Take It and Run podcast if you want the whole story.
Track the recovery, not the streak.
First, watch the podcast episode above — Merrill’s 200-pound story is the proof this works.
Then spend 15 minutes reflecting on what you want in business and in personal development. Write down 4 things you’re going to track every single day (include the ones you’re already tracking) that will measure your progress and keep you from falling for the perfection fallacy.
This exercise is designed to do one thing: set appointments. Track your progress and pay attention to what is converting.
